48,
College St., Petersfield
This property dates back to 1420 AD. It is the oldest building
on record in Petersfield. The project is a complete refurbishment
with some additions to the building including a new porchway and
windows etc. Internally a complete re-plumb and re-wire is required
incorporating a new kitchen.
The roof was the main challenge. You may notice in the pictures
that the existing oak trusses which are believed to be several
hundred years old and may be original have 'fallen over'. The
original plan was to stand them back up. However, this could not
be carried out due to how fragile they were. Plan B followed which
meant our raising of the ridge by some 200mm. The listed building
planners would not allow this to happen so Plan C 'appeared',
this was to put the new rafters in between the existing ones,
even though they could not be put in vertically due to the amount
of lean on the oak rafters. |
